Mental Health & Wellbeing Framework

Preamble & Vision:

Recognizing mental health as integral to holistic education, AITAM is committed to creating a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment for all students and staff. Vision: To build a campus where wellbeing is nurtured, stigma is eliminated, and every individual feels empowered to seek help.

Objectives:
  1. Promote awareness and reduce stigma.
  2. Provide qualified counselling and psychological services.
  3. Enable early identification and intervention.
  4. Train faculty, staff, and student mentors.
  5. Maintain confidentiality and coordination with health agencies.
  6. Ensure periodic review and continuous improvement.
Institutional Structure & Roles
Role / Body Responsibilities
Dean – Student Affairs Overall supervision, coordination with external agencies.
Counselling & Wellness Cell Daily counselling, referrals, records, awareness activities.
Mental Health Committee Plans policy, monitors programs, includes faculty, students, counsellors.
Peer Support Network Student mentors act as first contacts and awareness ambassadors.
External Affiliations Partnerships with local hospitals, psychiatrists, helplines.
Counselling & Support Services

A fulltime qualified counsellor or psychologist shall be available per 100 students. Counselling services will be confidential, free, and easily accessible. Walkin and scheduled appointments will be supported.

Early Warning & Crisis Response

Faculty and staff will be trained to recognize distress signs. A defined protocol ensures quick response, involving counsellors and external professionals if necessary.

Confidentiality & Ethics

All counselling information will be securely stored and shared only with consent, except when life safety requires disclosure.

Training & Capacity Building

Two annual training sessions on psychological first aid, suicide prevention, and inclusivity will be conducted for all staff and student mentors.

Monitoring & Review

The Mental Health Committee shall review performance annually, maintain anonymized data, and report to authorities.

Hostels & Safety Measures

Hostels shall maintain a safe environment, free from bullying and substance abuse. Helpline details will be displayed. Safety fixtures like tamperproof fans shall be installed.

Parent & Community Engagement

Regular sensitization sessions will be conducted for parents and guardians to encourage empathy and understanding of student wellbeing.
