Security & Disaster Management
Engineering colleges require a robust framework for safety, security, disaster preparedness, and environmental sustainability. These measures safeguard students, faculty, staff, and infrastructure while promoting a responsible and eco-friendly learning environment. The following are the measures captivating at AITAM campus:
- CCTV surveillance network across:
- Entrances/exits
- Corridors, labs, libraries
- Hostels, parking zones
- Perimeter and blind spots
- Trained security guards with communication devices.
- Controlled access through ID cards/biometric systems.
- Adequate lighting in open areas, pathways, and hostels.
- Anti-ragging committee and 24/7 helpline.
- Grievance redressal cell and women’s safety cell (ICC (Internal Complaints Committee)).
- Counselling and psychological support services.
- Night patrolling inside campus.
- Verified bus drivers with background checks.
- First-aid kit, fire extinguisher, and emergency exits in each bus.
Disaster Management Measures
- A comprehensive Disaster Management Plan (DMP):
- Assembly points
- Responsibilities of staff and students
- Fire sprinkler systems.
- Fire extinguishers (CO2, foam) in every block and lab
- Public Address System (PAS) for alerts and announcements
- Annual or semester-wise:
- Fire drills
- Flood/cyclone preparedness sessions
- Hands-on training:
- Use of fire extinguishers
- Basic first aid and CPR (Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation)
- Assessment of high-risk areas (labs, electrical rooms, hostels).
- Major hazards: fire, electric shock.
- Periodic safety measures to identify and mitigate vulnerabilities.
